Lightbulb Ear infection prevention home remedy (recipe)

As some of you may or may not know, we've had trouble with Gizmo and ear infections since he was very little. He almost always has one or is getting over one. For the past six months or so we've been trying some home treatments that have really helped him. He hasn't had any ear infections lately. I have to say that I really think that this recipe is the reason.

I would HIGHLY suggest that you talk to your vet about this first! Just to make sure that it would be okay for your pet. I do not sell this stuff and I did not create this recipe. It's simply a combination of two recipes that I've seen widely on the internet and have used with great results! I even saw a similar recipe here on YT, but can't find it now.

The alcohol was a concern for me at first, but it doesn't seem to bother Gizmo at all. If the ear has open scratches, you might consider the witch hazel substitution.

Mix all of these ingredients up in the alcohol or witch hazel bottle. (I just pour out a little of the alcohol to make room for the other ingredients).

14oz of isoprophyl alcohol (91%) OR witch hazel *I used a 16oz bottle and poured two oz out
4 tablespoons of boric acid powder
3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
16 drops of gentian violet 1% solution (very purple and stains! be careful!)

Shake this up every time you use it! It settles and separates between uses.

Directions: If your pup currently has an ear infection (and some types of fungal infections) fill the ear canal and massage for 30 seconds. Wipe off any drips. Then, let your pups run around and shake their ears dry.

Twice a day for two weeks, then once a day for two weeks, then once every two weeks to prevent ear infections.

If your pet does not have an ear infection currently, just do it once every couple of weeks.

SHOPPING NOTES: Most of these ingredients can be found in larger pharmacies and drug stores. The boric acid powder is sometimes with the laundry detergent. The gentian violet may have to be ordered online. You may also substitute white vinegar for the apple cider vinegar. The boric acid powder is very important because of its soothing effect, and the gentian violet is an anti-infective.

****Once again, I am NOT a vet! Please check with your vet before you begin using this home remedy!! *****
