Default What makes one a cuddler and the other so independent?

I have two 2-year old Yorkies, one male, one female. They are not siblings, and there is 2 months difference in their ages.

The male is very independent; he'll jump up when he wants attention, and really doesn't like to be held if it's not HIS wish.

The little girl wants to be held - or at least close - most of the time. She'll stand on her hind legs and pat mine - insistently! - until I pick her up. During the day when I'm at work, she'll stay in my bedroom, either on the bed or curled up in laundry. She doesn't come out until I get home. My daughter works from home, so she tells me this. Bella just wants me to hold her.

I'm not complaining; I just wonder if anyone has any insight as to why one would be such a cuddle-bug and one so, so *independent* unless it's on HIS terms (or I have food! ). They've been treated the same ... ?
