I really considered doing this as well (sorry, I don't have any tips for you), but just couldn't. I would've done the hemostat clamp and twist method as well; i've just heard better things about it- less painful, less bleeding. Do you have some quick stop powder on hand? Are you also planning to remove the dewclaws yourself? If you're planning on taking them to the vet for dewclaw removal, you may as well let them dock the tails as well (it's not expensive to do). Honestly, I think it'd probably be best to see it done firsthand before attempting this for the first time; videos always make things look so easy. But if this is what you're going to do, then good luck to you. Hopefully there will be many who can give you excellent advice.
