No flash is best with the Xmas lights
I'm not familiar with your cam, but I would use a tripod and a slower shutter speed, around 1/40 to 1/60 second, along with a higher ISO setting, and an aperture wider open. These would be all manual settings, or you could go into a shutter priority mode and play around with shutter speeds and let the camera determine what lens opening to use.
I believe on most DSLR's, when you are in manual mode, the flash will not pop up automatically
Hope this makes some sense. Less light you need slower shutter speed, anything under about 1/60th, and you need a tripod unless you are really steady. Also, the less light you have, the higher your ISO setting should be and opening up (lower number) the aperture helps as well.
