Gizmo's home now and happily playing.
The vet said that he has a serious problem with the enamel on his teeth. It's very soft and gets minute little cracks that cause the staining. It's like he had distemper as a puppy, but he didn't.
Most likely it's a genetic issue. We just need to get them checked every so often. We've kept his tartar down to almost nothing with the brushing we do, but there's not much to do about the enamel. He said that he doesn't see this much and it's rare, so if anyone has any suggestions, we're open.
