Here is what i need

a picture of Layla in front of the tree with the lights on. Now- when i use a flash- all i see are the cords for the lights and no actual "light" so clearly- can't use a flash- but even then i still can't get the nice "lights" looks- what do i need to do?

I have a Canon Rebel T1i. - also NO idea how to turn off the flash in manual- or any of those "modes"
