I've never been able to keep the hair long using clippers. I make mistakes and I end up cutting it shorter and shorter. So if I want a puppy cut I use the clippers, if I want it left a little longer I use scissors.
I've never found it to be that difficult. I make sure to play with Gus first so he is more likely to stay still. Remember it will grow back.
