As Nancy pointed out, it sounds like you got Coby from a breeder who wasn't too informed about Yorkies and wasn't breeding to the standard.
The Yorkie standard is a blueprint for the ideal Yorkie set forth by the breed club, the YTCA. If a breeder doesn't follow the blueprint, which starts with parents who are close to the standard as possible, the result is a puppy who may not look much like a Yorkie is supposed to. It's just like not following a recipe exactly when you cook .... the result can be far from what you expected!
The standard calls for the ears to be "small, V-shaped, carried erect and set not too far apart. " If Coby's ears are extra large, the weight of them will make it impossible for them to stand up.
