Ann, there's a lot of stuff posted on you tube. You can do a search and find video of the horrible practices of any type of meat or egg farming. Just do a search like 'egg farm cruelty', 'pig farm cruelty', etc. and they will come up.
One doesn't have to be a vegan to be totally disgusted by the everyday practices of these 'industries'. Actually, I think it's the meat eaters among us that should be up in arms over this.
Meat eaters should be upset that the absolute filth these animals live in makes the over-use of antibiotics necessary. Also, any animal that is stressed at the time of slaughter releases chemicals that negatively affect the quality of the meat.
The bottom line is that these practices aren't necessary. They don't do the animals or the consumer any good. This is one area that I'd like to see strict regulations imposed and enforced. It would cost more to enforce them but I think the industry should be made to pay for that. It would make prices higher but I'm okay with that. We shouldn't think it's fine to heap horrors on whole species for the sake of a cheap bacon cheeseburger. |
