Around 5 or 6 months they start losing baby teeth, and in getting the adult teeth, the pockets for the lost teeth, smell bad; kind of a mixture of blood, rotting food, and rotted fish. Once they get their adult teeth this should go away, however some most yorkies don't lose all their teeth on their own, and a vet usually pulls the remainder of baby teeth at the neutering/spaying. The reason these teeth should be pulled, is that the double row of teeth causes food to build up between rows, and causes bad breath as well as later trouble with adult teeth. Now's a good time to start the tooth brushing routine; only use a toothpaste made for dogs, and get them use to their teeth being cleaned. Yorkies are prone to bad teeth, and many lose them by the age of three if not properly cared for.
