Make sure you have a good orthopedic specialist. My dear MyNewt broke her leg jumping off our deck last August, they said it was a clean break and put it in a cast. By December it still hadn't healed so then they sent me to the Ortho. The ortho took off the cast, took x-rays and decided she needed surgery, put a tight bandage on without a splint and her leg rebroke later that week, she got gangrene and they had to amputate her leg.
I blame most of this on myself, I knew she wasn't healing. I should have done my homework, found the best ortho and took her in early. Instead I listened to the advice of a hometown vet.
Newt is doing well with three legs, but she did much better with 4!
