I wonder if it has anything to do with the anesthesia from surgery? I know some animals can act a little off for the better part of a day. Or it could just be she has a very strong maternal instinct. Has she ever growled/snapped at you prior to the whelping, other than when you tried to remove her from her whelping box earlier today? I think she's just trying to be a good mom and protect her babies; not sure if there's anything you can do to calm her down.
