Default Newbie

Hi all, I'm new (obviously, lol). My name is Cameo. I'm a married SAHM to 3 human kids (boy - age 6; girl - age 4; girl - age 2), and 3 furbabies, Berby (cat), Gabriel (cat), and Sir Galahad (yorkie).

We officially brought Galahad into the family on Wednesday, the 4th. He had been running free out near my apartment complex (middle of absolute nowhere) for over a month before he got confident enough to allow me to pick him up and bring him in the house for the first time, that was a week and a half ago. I'd been feeding him when he'd come near enough to me to eat, petting him as he'd allow it, and just talking with him. I posted a found ad on a local forum and in our paper, 3 weeks ago. I got no messages or calls about him.

When I brought him in, he weighed just under 4 pounds. He was filthy, matted, you could feel every rib and the ridges of his spine. He was not barky or growly towards me at all, not from the first moment I started seeing him around. I let him run around my house and explore, the kids were in bed when I brought him in. After about 2 hours of running around and sniffing everything (cats included), I scooped him up and put him in the bath. I gave him a good washing, and my best friend and I managed to get all the matting detangled, for a wonder. Her being a groomer once upon a time turned out to be a great thing!

I fed him, put down water, and let him continue to roam. When he started acting like he wanted to go back outside, I put our old dog harness on him and took him out on the leash. He didn't care much for that, but he's used to it now. The first night he was in, he decided my bed was his bed too. My husband doesn't mind, lol.

I took him to the vet on Monday, who said that near as she can tell, he is a pure bred Yorkshire Terrier. She estimated his age at about 1.5 to 2 years, and said that he is in perfect health, he just needs lots of food and love. I was so happy to hear that, because despite my best efforts, I was attached already.

Anyhow, on Wednesday, my husband came home from work with a new harness, a bunch more food, some treats (which Galahad won't touch), and asked me what I wanted to name him...Because we're keeping him.
I couldn't be more happy, heehee. I love this little guy.

He's SO sweet, he's great with the kids (who have been around small animals their entire lives, so they know to be careful and gentle), he's great with the cats. He's snuggly and doesn't mind being bathed at all. He isn't fond of being brushed, but I'm working on that. He's a barky little guy, and he doesn't like the crate, and he's not housebroken. All these are things we are working on, he's worth it.

Anyhow, if you made it this far, lol, thanks for reading my little novel. I'm glad to have found this forum, I've already gotten a bunch of good information for training Galahad.

I weighed him today, and he's up to a full 5 pounds even!
