I struggle with that one too, not so much working but where to put my puppy while I am at work to encourage potty training. My brother (married with 3 children) has a yorkie that he crates all day. He's done this since the dog was a puppy. The dog goes right in the crate on his own when he sees everyone leaving for work. It's his routine. He is a little hyper thing but no more hyper then some of the stories I have read on this forum.
As far as behavior goes he is more well behaved than my puppy that gets to stay in a nice size baby gate plan pen! He's a nice dog and good with their kids!
Don't stress about it MOST people with pets work!
