I like to visit with the doggies and have asked her ( since I am looking for a yorkie) to let me know once they are born. Since I have seen this dog almost everyday or every few days she doesnt look like she is expecting. Is there any way I can tell just by looking at her quick glances and petting her? The owner doesnt seem to know if she is expecting or not either or if they even tied, i think that is right word from what I have been reading. Anyway I thought I would ask you guys since you all are very knowledgeable...

The easiest way to tell if she is pregnant is to stand her up on her hind legs and see if her belly is bulging. Even if she is carrying one pup she will still have a little bulge unless she is a large framed bitch. You can usually start feeling movement about 7 to 10 days before the pups are born. The vulva should be soft and enlarged and the female would have a clear gooey discharge. Her breast were most likely be enlarged also. Do you know how much this female and the sire weights? Breeding these little dogs can be really risky and your neighbor could easily lose her female if she is pregnant and has complications during delivery or after delivery. Please tell your neighbor that she needs to get the little girl to the vet if she thinks she is pregnant. Momma yorkies need lots of help and special care during the whelping and the rearing of the pups. If you neighbors finds out that her yorkie is pregnant then she needs a crash course in whelping pups. Is your neighbor home during the day? If the yorkie is pregnant then she should not be left alone when she is getting close to delivery. Right now your utmost concern should be for the welfare of the expectant momma so please try to do your best to encourage her to get help. You can always consider later if you want a pup if there are any pups and if they survive. Please keep us posted.
