She sais her vet told her that as long as the male is smaller than the female the it is okay to breed that small. She kept one from each litter but she is not sure she is going to breed the little girl she kept because she has too much trouble giving up the pups. She falls in love with them and she says she's too old to keep any more. LOL

If I were breeding I would want to make sure there was "no chance of a throw back" from somewhere down the pedigree line but the theriogenologists (reproduction specialists) don't seem to think it is a problem either.
I'm glad that you found out the scoop. It's good that she had her spayed. I could not imagine a 2.5 lb baby having babies, herself.

No one can guarantee, however, that they will not have a throwback somewhere along the way. Even with a reproduction specialist. There is no way to guarantee 100% that it won't happen. That's why they call them throwbacks and there's no telling when it will happen.

I had mentioned in another thread that Gracie's smallest puppy was 3 ounces at birth and I remember the length and size of her. I could not imagine something weighing just 2.5 lbs giving birth to a 3 ounce puppy (being it the largest). To me, it's just too risky. It's not like their giving birth to pinkies. These are puppies that are larger than that.
