Hi, welcome to Yorkietalk! I've adopted several male dogs from the pound, and never had any problem with marking, but several things factor into this. The dogs were probably never used as breeders and also we were a one-dog family, and this makes the need to mark less compelling. I think you should probably be prepared for some marking, especially before he's neutered, and many people use bellybands on their male dogs. A bellyband is just a piece of velcroed material that holds a pad to catch marking drips. You have to take it off when the dog needs to pee, or otherwise, it's a diaper. I also think taking a dog for walks, and praising the marking outside cuts down on any marking inside. Neutering cuts down on marking, but it doesn't always eliminate it.
