I don't want to get too philosophical but think it's really hard to say whether or not I treat Susan better than I treated our son. With Susan it's morally, ethically, legally and spiritually FINE to spoil her rotten. She has no immortal soul to worry about, no need for character development, no future to plan for, no education to get through -- nothing like that. For her life is just an eternal sunshiny (I hope) today and it's fine to indulge her as long as I don't make her too difficult to live with and teach her the basic things that "civilized" dogs need to know. So I do indulge MYSELF by spoiling her in ways that I couldn't with my son because I had his spiritual and psychological welfare to consider. |
