I think a lot of it depends on what we inadvertently train them to do. My Susan sleeps all night and has since about 4 1/2 months. But Mom's Little Bit (Susan's litter mate) gets up a time or two in the middle of the night. I think (but can't possibly really know, of course) that that is because Little Bit lives with my parents and their older dog, Maggie. Maggie has ALWAYS gotten up and gone out in the middle of the night. Since she was about 6 months old (she's now a little over 6 years) she has just gone outside and sniffed the air then come back in. However, when Mom and Dad are out of town and Maggie stays with us, she sleeps all night because we're NOT doing the recreational outside-in-the-middle- of-the-night thing and she knows it.
