Animal Smiley 019 Aggressive behavior

I just adopted a one year old Yorkie and his foster mommy assured me that he didn't have an aggressive bone in his body and he is really sweet. So far, so good until today when he FINALLY started playing with the toys we have, he started getting possessive over the toys (that weren't his to begin with) and growled at my 5 month old yorkie. Is this normal? I don't think they have established a pecking order yet and he really is docile most of the time. He tolerates my 5 month old chewing on his ears and lips without so much as a grunt. Should I just let them be as long as they aren't hurting each other?
