I live on 3 acres and use an invisible fence with my aussie. She has about 1 acre fenced off to roam on. I agree with Janie Doyle, the proper training takes a few weeks 15-20 minutes daily. The training is very important it cannot be rushed or done half way if you want the fence to contain your pet. In 3 years my aussie has never broken the barrier. She gets an audible tone if she gets too close and and she will immediately turn back towards the house. I use the DogWatch system and love it. It has several different settings soft to hard to train, you can also adjust the range of the "zap" zone. After winter I plan on getting the mini collar and training my yorkie to use it also so she can have some supervised outside freedoms and not have to be leashed all the time.
