That actually helps a lot. His coat is VERY soft and is single layer. Not wiry at all. In fact, my pure bred has a more wiry coat than the adopted one. I'm trying to figure out HOW they made his coat SO soft. He was disgusting when we got him but a haircut and two baths later, he has a gorgeous blue coat. I wish I had pics. Haven't had a chance to take a good one of him. He's still adjusting but adjusting well so far.
