When we first got our furbaby and he was using pads inside, we were told that he might not understand the difference between the pad and the carpet (both being soft). We got a suggestion from a trainer to put some sod/grass inside a litter box and put that inside so he could feel the difference between the carpet and where he was supposed to go. We were also told that grass in a box inside would help him learn to go outside as well since the grass outside would feel the same as inside.
