If you can't do a pen maybe just leashing could work? Just stand still till the jobs done? Of course it is always safe to check if there is an underlying problem first. Some dogs just have funny habits though, so if that's the case maybe these ideas will help. Good luck.

I have started using a potty pen also. Just a small x-pen to keep my Maddie confined so she will concentrate on what she is suppose to be doing out there! On weekends and evenings after she goes she gets the run of the yard, in the mornings when I need to get her in the house so I can get ready, or in the evenings when it is dark in the yard (perfect time for her to find frogs/toads to chase and she doesn't want to come in) she is penned so I can pick her up to bring her in. I am interested in knowing what is on the ground under the patio? Concrete or grass? I would like to be able to have a place for Maddie to go potty when it's pouring down outside. I have a large covered patio, but it's concrete. ???
