I actually chose to go with Petplan for my buddy. I did a lot of research and I really only wanted insurance for the unexpected stuff. All the routine stuff I could handle but I just wanted to be covered if he got hurt and needed extensive surgery or got really sick and needed to stay hospitalized. I only pay $16 a month for mine and it even covers hereditary diseases. You can check with your vet about plans because mine offered a "puppy package" that gave me shots, checkups, and neuter for $300 for the first year. Also the package includes free stuff like nail clippings and anal expression. From what I have seen many insurances can be a waste of money because they either don't cover many things or reimburse at cheap rates.
