Dogs are social animals
so being alone is a very new thing to them and its hard for them to get used to it
Your dad is right
let her be and she will eventually learn that you will come back for her
But don't go and pick her up everytime she cries or you'll never have peace in your house
It will take her a good week or two to get the message
But enjoy your new little pup
