Do you have a bulkhead for your basement? Most furniture fits through a bulkhead and then you can try to get it upstairs once it's in the house. Thats a bummer though. I never understand how a furniture company can justify making furniture bigger than a doorway... I had a friend who had to leave her couch in her 3 season porch and buy a new one.. it just would not go into the house no matter what they did. Such a bummer!

Try sawing off the legs if it has legs.... then your hubby can just screw them back on. that may give you the few inches you need..... he should take off the door frame, it's not that hard to take it off and put it back on.
