My poor poor doggie... I have 2 yorkies, a female and a male. Chloe is 5 years old but I swear she is still a puppy, always wanting to play ball. Skeeter is 7 years old and is the quiet, shy, most laid back dog. Skeeter has always had a beautiful coat but over the year he has gradually started losing his hair. It started out in a little patch right above his tail but is quickly spreading up his body. It doesn't effect the head or his front legs. He acts perfectly fine but it is bothering me that I can't help him or make his hair grow back. I have taken him to 3 different vets and he has been tested for Cushings, thyroid diseases and a battery of many other tests. The vets have given me shampoo to use twice a week (Keratolux) and the last vet started him on a fat supplement and antibiotics but can't tell me what it is. They have never scraped his skin to check for mites or fleas.
I work in a doctors office so I know ALL too well how annoying it is to look up your symptoms on WebMD and diagnose, but I have searched the internet and it seems that Skeeter might have eczema. I have been told all sorts of remedies, including using USED motor OIL on him but I can't see how that would possibly help. I am going to another vet this week and suggest that it could be eczema.
I am at my wits end, hence the rambling in this thread but it just makes to sick to see him this way even though he is not hurting or acting funny at all. It seems purely an aesthic probem but I feel like I should figure out what it is and how to make it better.
Sorry about this long post but I am ready to give him my hair! I would appreciate any and all info anyone can give me...back to researching!!! |
