I think most toads secrete some kind of toxins but most won't actually kill them. My dog is always chasing frogs/toads. Our yard is full of them a lot of the time so I never let him outside by himself. The 1st time I caught him messing with one it was dark and I saw him pick something up then drop it really fast an jump back. his mouth was all foamy. We washed his mouth out and he was fine. I've caught him chasing little tree frogs a bunch of times and he still sniffs the big toads, I think he'd try them again if I didn't run him off, but since the 1st time I watch him pretty close.
