I took my cat to Petsmart in an emergency and wasn't happy. I'm assuming Petco would be similar, and I don't care to find out. If you do go to Petco, I would read the vaccinations post in the YT Library, and just beware that they may try to sell you on vaccines and stuff you don't want for your Yorkie. Even if a private vet may appear more expensive, they won't be in the long run. It can be beneficial to your pet to have an ongoing relationship with the same vet, a compassionate, caring one as opposed to a large, profit-motivated company. It appeared to me that the vets at the chain stores are punching a clock, just putting their time in till payday, following procedures set by non pet/medical corporate executives who could care less about the well being of your pet, but whose main concern is their bottom line, or how can they make a profit by offering vet services at their retail pet supply stores.
They are offering vaccines for dental disease, giardia and some other new ones. Don't get them. They are too new on the market and long term effects are not known. Personally I have heard reports of a friend's Yorkies having a very bad reaction to the dental vaccine. Not worth the risk. |
