Our surgeon was Dr. Mike Schlicksup. And he has been absolutely wonderful. I would recommend him in a heartbeat! Hathaway should come home tomorrow. Of course we will have follow-up visits to re-test bile acids and what not. I have been in touch with my breeder and I am getting a full refund for Hathaway. I've already received half. I am very appreciative, but at the same time his surgery was $6500. I only paid $800 for Hathaway. With all of the testing before hand, I'm close to $10,000 already.
I just want to mention too that my regular vet thought I was a "nut case." I was in her office at least once a month since I brought Hathaway home last Easter. I just knew something was wrong. He wasn't a normal puppy in my opinion. I went with my gut, purchased pet insurance and took him to UPenn. Since my regular vet thought I was a hypochondriac there was nothing in Hathaway's chart about a possible shunt. This was not considered by the insurance a "pre-existing" condition. (Even though mother's instinct let me know when he was 12wks old.)
Pet Plan insurance covers all hereditary and congenital conditions that are not pre-existing. It is definitely the company I would recommend as well. Depending on your plan (I purchased the highest threshold) they cover 100% at your regular vet and 70% at a specialist or university hospital. And I only have a $50 deductible. As long as there is no break in coverage, he is covered for life.
