This is what I do also.
I guess if you have olne that would gobble it all down at one time, then you would have to limit their food. But mine nibble several times a day. the food is put out in the morning, when it's gone it's gone. So I guess you could say I feed once a day all day long.
If it is not gone by 7pm then I pick it up.
