Abby was 6.8 lbs. when she was spayed three weeks ago. She is a little over 7 months old now. The breeder assured me that she would be less than 5 lbs. full grown and although I love her unconditionally, I hope she doesn't grow any more. She can jump up/down from the couch, but not the bed which is good. A couple of times she has jumped from the bed before I could stop her and it scared me, but it didn't phase her at all. She loves the rough and tumble play and loves to run around outside. She isn't delicate at all, she is a tomboy I guess. From what I have heard and read the size of Yorkies is pretty unpredictable. My vet has a 12 lb. male Yorkie and his mother has a 4.5 lb. female, both from the same breeder, but not the same litter. I got Abby when she was 8 weeks old; most people say don't get one younger than 12 weeks because they the weight can be predicted better. If I ever get another Yorkie, I may wait until it's older, although she was so sweet and precious and fun as a little puppy I hate to think I would have missed that extra month with her! |
