I will tell you I only took a couple pics with the lens in the kit and put the new one on. I like to be able to zoom when the dogs are not close to me and that way I can get better shots if they don't know I'm taking the pic

That is great to hear!! I've pretty much talked myself into the same camera you bought. I just don't think I'd be happy with anything less. Do you have to manually focus the extra lens you bought? I used to have a Canon 35mm and I had to do that manually on every shot I took - I don't remember it being that bad. Of course, this was 20+ years ago & I understood technology then.
Those are some great pics you're taking! Very crisp, with the blurry background I like so much.
