We are in a similar situation. Remy was cleared of LP by two vets, one involving x-rays and then diagnosed with it, Grade 2/3 when just under a year. He has no visible signs (now) he has had two episodes where he was lifting his right rear leg for which he had some anti-inflamatories for a few days which corrected the issue. We have since switched to a Raw diet, which I have read helps with joint issues in some cases. I have identified a small dog ortho specialist, and intend to pursue an appointment once he has been on Raw for about 6 months. That way any presumed benefit of Raw on his joints will have had an opportunity to take effect.

I hate to say it, but my gut reaction was that the last vet was trying to push me into needless surgery. No specific grounds for this aside from my personal feeling, that and they would not let me see or speak with the "ortho" that examined him and asserted the LP condition. Crazy.
