We were at the Vet again yesterday and we are taking every precaution - his blood panel was normal last month but we are taking him for a Bile Acid Test, urinalysis, etc next week to rule out any liver dysfunction. Our vet does not seem to think it is his liver (as he does not really have symptoms of liver shunt dogs that she has treated and his blood panel was great) and thinks he may have a hypersensitivity to food.
Can you let me know how often your dogs throw up and the symptoms? What do you feed them? If all his tests are negative (I pray and hope) I will work on changing his diet - I suspect he has a bit of a problem with protein - and I will have to slowly change his food.
Has anyone whose dogs were throwing up often take the BAT test? I would appreciate any insight - thanks! |
ok my dog had similar experience; that sounds like an empty stomach; throwing up bile in the morning; you can avoid this by feeding him late meal or giving him a treat before bed time. however my dog developed severe gastritis after throwing up for months; she has extremely sensitive stomach adn wasn't getting enough water. so i decided to switch her food after she ended up in the hospital twice from vomiting blood and not eating for few days.
after the hospital the vet told me to feed her boiled chicken and rice and gerber baby food to settle her stomach for a week or so.
then i switched her to the honest kitchen force formula; which is dehydrated raw food that i get to add water to; which i like; that way i know she's getting enough water. the vet told me to feed her 4 small meals daily that way it's easier for her stomach.
also i add digestive enzymes, probiotic to help her digestion.
which food are you feeding your dog; make sure the ingredients dont' have "meal, corn, bypoducts.." those are bad for the dog. if you decide to switch i recommend the honest kitchen; also to add the digestive enzymes and the probiotic; also once in a while i used homeopet upset stomach drops to help with the vomit. you will see the vomiting will stop. try to feed late dinner around 8 or 9pm to avoid the emptying of the stomach; 4 small meals are better than 2 big meals. for now you can start with the boiled chicken and rice or gerber baby food to stop the vomiting; you can try the chicken apple dinner and banana. good luck
