Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone whose seem to have dogs with sensitive stomachs can describe their symptoms. My four year old yorkie has a great appetite but throws up a few times a month, mostly bile, but when he throws up food (generally never after a meal, rather in the morning before he has eaten) he recently has had 4 severe shaking episodes (averaging once a month) that have been frightening. He is a shaker by nature - always when scared, excited, nervous or when he wants to "guilt us" for going out without him - but we have been quite concerned because the last four times he severely shakes, pants and has wobbly legs. After he throws up, he shakes for a bit and then sits on the couch for ten minutes and is off and running like nothing ever happened. He will also throw up once and awhile randomly and does not shake at all - just does it and goes on his way. The severe shaking is when he throws up a great deal of food - I think he throws his whole 6 lb body into it and gets really upset. Otherwise, he loves to eat, is extremely alert and has had no other problems - no diarrhea either. I have read all the symptoms of liver shunt - the only similar ones are the vomiting and shaking - that is it.

We were at the Vet again yesterday and we are taking every precaution - his blood panel was normal last month but we are taking him for a Bile Acid Test, urinalysis, etc next week to rule out any liver dysfunction. Our vet does not seem to think it is his liver (as he does not really have symptoms of liver shunt dogs that she has treated and his blood panel was great) and thinks he may have a hypersensitivity to food.

Can you let me know how often your dogs throw up and the symptoms? What do you feed them? If all his tests are negative (I pray and hope) I will work on changing his diet - I suspect he has a bit of a problem with protein - and I will have to slowly change his food.

Has anyone whose dogs were throwing up often take the BAT test? I would appreciate any insight - thanks!
