Pancreatitis-What to feed him? Questions . . . Hi-My first time here and i appreciate any advice. Pfender, 2 years, 11 mos.'s spCL test came back this morning at 663 lipase level, which the vet says is consistent with pancreatitis. He had been vomiting for a a few days before we brought him in. Prior to that he had been eating Stella & Chewy's frozen chicken patties which he enjoyed. But this weekend we gave him a beef bone which he ate up. He started feeling bad later that day and the vomiting after eating started the day after. He is now on an antibiotic and an antacid and we have fed him rice boiled in chicken broth with either bits of chicken breast or steamed carrots (which is really his favorite food). He hasn't vomited since he started on the rice/chicken meals and is much more energetic/less sick looking. The vet says that he will need a low fat/low carb diet. He gave us some cans of RD in the meantime but apparently folks here say that is not good.
I have read a few of the threads here about Yorkies with the condition and was curious about feeding going forward. What have you used? I would prefer to find an already prepared food from a pet or feed store. I have seen Purina HA mentioned. How have the results been with that? Are there other foods people have used that have effectively curbed attacks? Are there specific foods/ingredients should be avoided to help prevent future attacks besides the obvious pork, beef, higher fat stuff?
What about treats-any specifics? Is there any other advice regarding the condition and things to help a Yorkie that you can offer. IT would be appreciated.
I just want to make sure he is getting the right things.
Thanks for any advice! |
