Only thing is I cannot take him outside, we live on a MT. and so many animals roaming..the BIRDS (and I mean BIG birds like hawks and vultures) when I had him out on the deck this summer with his lil harness and leash, they were circling over head...NICE, huh?...NOT!..so outside is not something I feel comfortable with. So I use pee pads in a liter pan, that has a lil opening for him to be able to jump into.
He never went in his kennel before now every day...I have tried the seperator like the breeder had, that cuts kennel in half, but Shay chews on it..I have tried all sorts of materials, but am afraid he will get hurt chewing on wood, or the heavy plastic..may try steel, or whatever it is that is like the kennel...
Just wanted to tell you that Joey didn't like the pee pads when I placed them on a small tray with a small lip, he was really fussy. I did have great success with washable pee pads, he took to them very easily. At first I placed him in the larger kennel for overnight, but he peed in it , so I placed him in a soft sided smaller kennel that was next the bed. I think night time training can be so helpful, because they can hold it longer, and you should place them on the pad, first thing in the morning, (or during the night, depending on their age). Don't allow them to walk to the pad, at first, carry them there. Dogs are creatures of habit, they like routine, so establishing a good routine is important. Those who don't have an x-pen just block off a bathroom or kitchen and place several pee pads, in addition to food and bedding and playthings. At first, most of the floor is covered and later on, you cover less and less until they are finding the pad themselves.
