I had a yorkie years ago, Gracie and she had a severely collapsed trachea diagnosed at 5 1/2 years of age. We did the medicine routine and that helped a little. I had her seen by a specialist and they recommended surgery but couldn't guarantee she would make it off the table. I contacted Texas A&M vet school who had just done a research study on CP in small animals and they couldn't have been nicer, they talked to me on the phone, they sent me the research findings (10.00) and in discussing with them I decided against surgery. They felt that where her collapse was (thoracic area) and her heart and lungs had already been damaged that she would not have a good outcome. She lived another year on meds and then it became too hard for her to breathe and we did the hardest but kindest thing and let her go. I think they have come a long way with the surgery but I would want it done somewhere they had a lot of experience with it. I can imagine how hard this is for you. I will keep you both in my prayers. |
