The belly bands are for catching the marking of the boys. Few boys will want to pee in them because they don't like the wetness against their bodies, so then they don't mark. Because the marking isn't really bladder-related (meaning they don't really need to pee), the boy will opt out of peeing while in the diaper. I fashioned one for a friend who was visiting with her male yorkie. It works really well, but you have to get them used to it.
If Cash (my male yorkie) marked, I would definitely put a belly band on him. For sure.
Just an update: I used the diapers on June and she is fully potty trained at 8 months. She can go on command, wherever I want her to and she knows her potty place at our home and uses it on her own.
She hasn't gone into heat yet, but apparently they keep themselves very clean. If not, I will make her some more panties.
