Thanks, everyone. All helpful in helping me feel better.
Mandy does not know any room with carpet - at least not without the benefit of her crate.
She is confined to the Kitchen/dining room with are tiled - and the hall and bath when we are getting ready for bed. We converted our garage to a rec room so she has free reign there and the outside it's attached to. That is where we spend most of our time so she is not banished from the family. I think in the two weeks we've had her, I've have spent 30 minutes in the living room.
As far as being pure bred - she is - and I find pure breeds harder to potty train than mutts. Hands down. I am convinced mutts are smarter - or at least they are more eager to please. I've had both in the past, and so far this is true for me. My mutts are potty trained with 2-3 weeks - all done, 100%. Pure breeds - forever! And I think Mandy is just proving me right (I wanted to be wrong so badly). She is only my second pure breed though.
She is my first yorkie this young, so I wasn't really sure. I had rescued an 8-month old boy Yorkie years ago and had him trained fairly quickly.
So, I think, based on comments here, we need to concentrate on pad training first then outside. My other Yorkie would have rather died before going in the house, but I don't think I will be that lucky with Mandy. With him we lived where they have 4 real seasons - including snow - and he still went outside. Now we live in SoCal - almost perfect weather year round. But we visit my partner's parents in the snow often - so I really feel she'll freak out there and needs to be pad trained before we get to their home for Thanksgiving... I think that deadline is wishful thinking... but I'm trying.
Thanks again - I love this site!!
