Kimbo is only potty pad trained, so I can't speak for training outdoors. I can tell you that we trained him in the summer when the kids and I were home from school. We got him @ 8weeks old. He was restricted to only the living room. We put the potty pad smack dab in the middle of the room. He was never left in the room without a "babysitter". Every 10 minutes or so for the first week we put him on the pad and said, "Kimbo POTTY". He was praised and treated for potty.
The next week it was every 15-20 min. He was treated with a kibble everytime he pottied (big or little). He got the hang of it after a month. That's when we started shifting the potty pad position. Now, it's in a corner, out of sight. It took a full 2weeks to creep it over 10 feet.
Almost with every potty pad move, he had a poop accident. It's funny how the slightest change can throw them off!
He's 5 months old now and now has access to the living room and hallway. He is 99% trained.
It was a slow, arduous process, but effective. |
