We had a training book that suggested we keep our puppy on a leash and with us whenever she was out of her kennel. That way we could socialize her but also see if she had to potty. It worked great, but it took over a year to get her completely potty trained or trained to not get into too much trouble. We didn't always keep her tied to us the older she got, but then it suggested we have her leashed and drag the leash. That way she was easier to stop if she was getting into trouble or running from us. There were many times we had to step on that leash. But it did work great. How wonderful for you. It sounds like you will have a great little girl once she is settled in. My daughter has a rescue (German Shorthair Pointer/Beagle). He was so scared for the first few months, and it took about three years to get him to let anyone but her put on his leash. I was there last month, and I always walk him, and he finally let me put on his leash.
