You don't have to leave him in between. We get to bring Ellie home, but your vet may not agree. It's worth a try. It's the obvious thing to do for us because she can't have the rx food and has to eat her own because of allergies, but I'd try it anyway.
BTW, while it's good to check for liver shunt in all Yorkies, those symptoms wouldn't necessarily suggest that there is.
