How did your friend find out what they had done??? If she had a contract and it states they must contact her before putting down then I would take them to small claims court.
We had this happen to a rescue we got in and nursed him back to health and he lived with my friend for 3 months. She thought she had adopted him out to a wonderful lady and within 1 month they had put the dog down. Our rescue contract states they cannot do this as we want to be involved...but the damage was already done. We had a lawyer issue a letter to shake her up but we knew we really couldn't do much of anything. We also notified all of the other rescues in Arizona so they could not get more dogs.
