This changed many lives and I was so happy to be able to protect my own children from this devastating disease. I understand that there are many strains of the flu, and the shot they give you is what scientists think will be the most common strain. Certain diseases are more deadly because the virus mutilates so rapidly that none of the population can be protected against them, and just the sheer number of people who can't work even though they aren't dying, puts a tremendous strain on everything and our health care system.
No I was not around in the 50's, and no, I did not see my childhood friends die of that. However, I have seen death up close and personal on too many occasions. As for our health care system being strained, I think that it is beyond strained, it is limping to its death. There is no one benefiting from our health insurance industry except the CEO's making millions: not the physicians who get paid a minimum monthly payment for taking care of sickly patients who cannot afford their monthly insurance payments much less the co-pays for their meds. Or the parents of disabled children whose insurance payments are so exorbitant that they must decide between health payments or necessities like food, that is if they can even get private insurance.
As for vaccinations; is the principle behind them a valid one? Yes, however, do not believe for one moment that the conglomerate pharmaceutical companies are not making a mint on them; and if you cannot believe me, believe the CDC when they say that there are chemicals included that could effect your future health.
Now whether that is an acceptable trade off for quality health now, is only a query that can be answered by you.
