Joanne's Fabric store has large bolts of vinyl fabric that is bonded. It's really wide, I think around 54 inches, and they have weekly 40% off coupons, so you can get it for a pretty good price. It's much thicker than the material used on a vinyl tablecloth. When my husband made ours, he stapled the fabric to some type of lightweight board, but you wouldn't have to do that, it's really thick.
