It does clean my floors but you are NOT to add detergent...it is hot enough water to sterilize things. I do not have carpet so I don't know.
I know there have been threads on here that you might want to search to see what people think.
I would also say, if your little one continues to be miserable scratching etc then you really need to have a scrapping down. It doesn't hurt like you think and if your little girl has mites or mange then she would be so much happier being treated.
