My husband had back surgery back in May and at the site his felt like that. When we went to the doctor for his check up I asked about it and he said it was scar tissue not the stiches. I could have swore it was the stiches. It has now turned into an indention along the scar. So I guess it was swollen under there. I don't know if this helps you at all. I do know the feeling you are talking about.
